Aubrey’s Nursery

From the very beginning, I felt like we were having a little girl.  So my mind immediately started planning a nursery for a girl.  I had some ideas for if it was a boy, but nothing I was set on. I knew I wanted to incorporate gray for a boy or a girl, because I’m kind of obsessed with the color.  I also knew I did not want a baby room theme (i.e. jungle, safari animals, Winnie the Pooh), not that there is anything wrong with those, it’s just really not my taste.  I wanted something classic that would grow with our baby.

As soon as we found out we were expecting a little girl, I took that as my green light to run and decorate our nursery, and before it was ever confirmed, I was set on purple, gold and gray as the color scheme.

I found this wallpaper at Target, and immediately was obsessed.  I wanted it to be the accent wall in her room!  Since we are currently renting, I figured this may be a little easier than painting, and having to repaint before we leave.  This wallpaper is vinyl peel & stick, so it isn’t like paper wall paper that takes forever to get off. (Paul claims paint would have been easier… Oops)

Her crib is also from Target, and we somehow ended up getting it for almost 50% off… you won’t see me complaining!

The adorable little blanket you see hanging on her crib was made by my mom, who is becoming quite the crochet queen since this is her third grandbaby!  The little basket next to her crib has all of her stuffed animals in it.

I can’t tell you how hard it was for me to find something to go above her crib that didn’t clash with the busy wallpaper.  When I finally found these mirrors at Hobby Lobby, they were silver.   So I had to paint them… 3 times.  3 different shades of white.  Heriloom White by Rustoleum was the winner in case you were curious.  I also didn’t break down in tears after the second time I painted them, because they didn’t look right.

These pictures were hanging at my baby shower that my sister threw for me.  She found them in a gallery wall book from Hobby Lobby and told me I could keep them.  Well I was just so excited, because “You Are My Sunshine” is kind of a sentimental song for me.  I was obsessed with that song when I was younger, and my mom’s sisters used to sing it and play it for me all the time.  I would beg to hear it.  So I love that there is a little piece of that in her room.

IMG_7535These are some knick knack decorations that I found and made.  I spray painted the mason jar silver, and then I cut some fake flowers that we used from our wedding, and put them in there.  So she has a little touch of our wedding incorporated into her nursery, and I kind of love that.

The “A” was something I made thanks to Pinterest, but my sister made one similar for my niece, Kennedy, back when she was born.

It’s hard to read the picture frames from this picture, but the purple one up top reads, “I’ll love you forever” and the gray flower one on the bottom reads, “She is more precious than rubies.  Proverbs 3:15”

One of my favorite pieces in her nursery is this rocking chair.  This is the same rocking chair that Paul’s mom rocked him and his brother and sister in.  It goes way back, and I love that in just a few weeks, Paul and I can rock our own daughter to sleep in this chair.   This chair really meant a lot to Paul to have it in here, and I think it goes with her room perfectly.  (Just pretend the cushion on it is gray, because it will be soon!)

The pillow on the chair, I found on Pinterest at the beginning of my pregnancy.  I fell in love with it, and I knew when we found out we were having a little girl, that I wanted it in here.  I found it on Etsy, and I think it combines all the colors perfectly… I possibly should have gotton a larger size, but that’s okay.

There is another handmade blanket on this chair that is from a friends mom.  Which I just think is adorable that Aubrey has so many people who already love her and have made her such great blankets!  We also have another handmade blanket from Paul’s cousin, and we just love them all!

FullSizeRender (1)

This dresser was a Craigslist find that was actually brown wood, and Paul and I refinished it and painted the handles to give it a new look.  It turned out really well, and I think it is the perfect style for her nursery.

Her nursery has quickly become my favorite room in the house, and I go in there on a regular basis and sit, or organize.  I’ve never considered myself to have good taste when it comes to decorating.  I know what I want, I just can’t seem to make it come together the way that I want it to (i.e. the cause of the meltdown over the mirrors… I blame pregnancy hormones), and for the first time, I think I did just that.  (With the help of my mom and sister who got probably 1,000 text messages asking for their opinion on every little piece that’s in here!)

Her nursery is ready to go, and now we are anxiously awaiting her arrival!

Baby M – 37 Weeks {FULL TERM!}

Bump Analysis? She has dropped… Like an inch and it probably isn’t noticeable to anyone but me.

Month/Trimester? 9 months [36 weeks – 40 weeks] / 3rd Trimester!

Fruit of the week? Aubrey is the size of a Winter Melon!  She is 18.9-20.9 in and 6.2-9.2lbs! AKA she is newborn baby size!!

Development? In the womb she is praticing inhaling, exhaling, sucking, gripping, and blinking.  She’s also getting ready for her first BM of meconium.  She has officially reached full term [Praise the Lord!] and is gaining about 1/2 oz a day!  When Paul leaves for his work trips, he now kisses me and says, “Don’t go into labor” 🙂

Movement? I am feeling her every move.  Every time she adjusts her position my stomach gets a little deformed looking.  I feel like it always looks deformed because she is always moving.  Her heartbeat was much lower at my last dr appointment {135} which the doctor said is pretty normal since she has less space to move around!

Name? Aubrey Joy 🙂

Testing? Waiting on the results from the Strep B test.

Weight Gain?  No change this week… Totaling 31 lbs.

  • Anxiety/Heart Palpitations/Shortness of Breath
  • Tingly/Numb leg sensations on my right leg
  • Dry Nose/Nose bleeds
  • Excessive pee breaks
  • Tailbone Pain
  • Heartburn
  • Swelling

Cravings? Nothing really that I’m craving.

Aversions? Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Sleep? Give me a bed anytime, anywhere.  I’m exhausted constantly, and I don’t feel like I’ve had the time to rest.  I was so thankful to have yesterday off work!

Maternity Clothes?  Same old, same old.

Exercise? Paul and I did go walking A couple times this week! Hooray!  I just tried to ignore the fact that my right leg felt like it weighed 500 lbs and between a numb calf and a numb butt cheek it was a blast! Seriously it’s kind of sad how difficult this little baby has made walking.

We also went and swam laps, and I started a 30 day squat challenge.  So exercise was much better this week!

Wedding Rings? ON!

Stretch Marks? Just when I thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel and I was making it out pretty unscathed…As if I didn’t know all the weight I’ve gained that isn’t in my belly wasn’t going to my legs, I now have the stretch marks to prove it.  I battled insecurities with my legs pre-pregnancy, so postpartum this should be fun…  Still using Burts Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter and BioOil.

Preparations for Baby? Aubrey’s car seat was inspected this week by our local fire department, and we were given the good to go!  I was able to pick up my free breast pump this week thanks to insurance.

We also got the rest of the baby products assembled.  We now have a swing and rock n’ play set up.  So weird seeing baby things around our house!

Labor Signs? As of my doctor appointment on Friday Aubrey was head down and pretty low in my pelvis! Woohoo! I was supposed to have a doctor appointment this week for 37 weeks, but they’re booked so I go back next Tuesday [38 weeks] and at that point they will start internal exams to see if we are getting close!

I’ve been having Braxton hicks for a while, but this past weekend they started becoming more regular.  Instead of having a couple a day I’m having quite a few an hour sometimes.  I actually started timing them at one point this weekend because I ended up having 7 within an hour and it was spreading to my lower back.  This whole pregnancy I’ve been planning on her being really late, but this definitely had me questioning that.

The pelvic pressure is here, and it’s intense.  If I wasn’t waddling before, I am definitely waddling now.  Let the waiting game begin!!

What I miss? Not bumping my stomach on things, because I don’t realize how big I am.  It’s a struggle.

Looking forward to? Holding our beautiful little girl in my arms!

Baby M – 36 Weeks

Bump Analysis? Just when I thought I couldn’t get any bigger… Welcome to 9 months pregnant!  I mean really this is just a 5 week difference!  This almost makes me okay with my 4 lb weight gain last week!

Month/Trimester? 9 months [36 weeks – 40 weeks] / 3rd Trimester!  Did you read that?! 9 MONTHS PREGNANT!!!

Fruit of the week? Aubrey is the size of a Honeydew Melon!  She is 17.2-18.7 in and 4.2-5.8 lbs!

Development? She is getting closer to being able to breathe on her own.  Her skin is getting smooth, and her gums are rigid.  Her liver and kidneys are now fully functional, and her circulation and immune system are basically good to go!

I have literally breathed a sigh of relief with each passing week as she continues to develop and grow as strong as possible before delivery.  As of today, if I were to go into labor they would not try to stop it!  Meaning, we could literally be meeting our little girl any day now!  She will be considered full term next week though (it has been changed from 36 weeks to 37 weeks), so I am perfectly okay with her staying in there a little longer!  I also feel like she’s going to make me wait, and she will take her sweet time making her debut.

Movement? She is just bouncing around in there, and getting pretty cramped at that.

Name? Aubrey Joy 🙂

Testing? I have a doctor appointment on Friday, and they will test for Strep B.  If I test positive, they would put me on antibiotics during labor.  Also, I’ve officially reached the point where I’ll be visiting the doctor EVERY WEEK, because in case you didn’t know I’m about to have a baby!!! Holy. Smokes.

Weight Gain? 1 lb this week… Totaling 31 lbs.

  • Anxiety/Heart Palpitations/Shortness of Breath
  • Tingly/Numb leg sensations on my right leg
  • Dry Nose/Nose bleeds
  • Excessive pee breaks
  • Tailbone Pain
  • Heartburn
  • Swelling – I’ve been waiting for this to happen… Say goodbye to feet and ankles, and hello to fat sausages.

Cravings? Nothing really that I’m craving.

Aversions? Buffalo Chicken Dip, and I don’t think this is an aversion, but I really have no interest in vegetables.  They do not sound appealing at all.

Sleep? Aside from a couple restless nights here and there, I think I’ve been far too busy to keep myself awake at night.  Since Thursday I’ve been passing out at night, and only waking up 3-5 times to go to the bathroom.  No staring at the ceiling for me!   I also have a killer sore throat and stuffy nose, I am not sure if this is my body telling me to relax since the last 3 weeks have been insane, or if I’m just overdue for a cold.  Either way, I want to lay in bed and sleep.

Maternity Clothes?  Same old, same old.  I’ve actually got a couple maternity shirts that my belly is actually hanging out of…

Exercise? I had work in Orlando this past week, and we walked to dinner each night.  It was usually about half a mile or so, which is about a mile when I walked back to the hotel.  It may not have been intentional exercise, but I’m counting it.  I’ve also decided I’m just going to have to suck up the numbing/tingling in my right leg that makes it feel like it weighs 1000 lbs and just go walking.  So for the next 4 weeks, Paul is going to pull me out of the house to go walking… right honey?

Wedding Rings? ON!

Stretch Marks? No change here… Still using Burts Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter and BioOil.

Preparations for Baby? This week was busy for Paul and I.  He traveled for work, and I had an event here in town for work Thursday – Saturday, but the fact that we’re having a baby in a few weeks is still at the forefront of my mind all the time.  So this week I got the hospital bag officially packed – aside from some last minute items we will throw in before we go (i.e. toothbrush, deodorant, etc). While I was working all weekend, Paul finished the rocking chair for the nursery! I’ve got a pillow coming in the mail, and then it will be done!! So happy!  I am also slowly taking baby items out of boxes to get them assembled.  Aubrey now has a bouncer to sit in, and this week I’m sure I’ll make my way to the Rock n’ Play and the swing!

The preparation that made it feel the most real though, was installing the car seat in my car (which also made it VERY apparent we are first time parents – so this coming week we will be getting it inspected for proper installation).  I have a car seat in my car, and it isn’t because I’m going to have one of my nieces in the car with me… it’s for our baby!  Every time I see it in the back seat, it feels real all over again!

We know the safest place for the car seat is in the middle, but unfortunately with the way our center seat sticks out it is very hard to get your fingers in there to release the car seat.
Labor Signs? Braxton hicks

What I miss? I’m far too anxious to meet my daughter at this point to miss anything.  Give me the back pain, excessive bathroom trips, and kicks to the ribs any day.  In about 4 weeks I will be holding my little girl!!

Looking forward to? A long three day weekend spent with my husband before we become parents!

Whirlwind of a Weekend

About 2 weeks ago, we had a crazy busy, and absolutely amazing weekend!!!  On Friday, my Mother-in-Law and our niece, Charlotte, flew in from Virginia.  We grabbed lunch, took Charlotte shopping for her upcoming birthday, and then we headed out to take our maternity pictures.  Since I have zero patience… here is a nursery sneak peek with some of my favorite maternity pictures!

IMG_7410 IMG_7407

On Saturday, we headed over to my mom’s house because she threw us a baby shower!  It was so much fun to see everyone, and to celebrate Aubrey!  I was absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of love I felt from everyone there as we all shared in the excitement as we anticipate her arrival!  We received so many generous gifts, we honestly could not be more thankful for each and every one! Can we also take a look at the decorations and the food?!  Apparently my mom and sister are pros at baby showers that look like they took them right off Pinterest!

IMG_7321 IMG_7316

Also fail for me… I had my mom and my mother in law in the same place with me at once and failed to get a picture with them both at the same time!! These photo opportunities are not easy to come by when your Mother-in-Law lives 11 hours away! So mom and mom, keep this is mind for when Aubrey is born!! I want a picture with the three of us (we can even have Aubrey in it!!)

After the shower on Saturday, we had my dad and another couple take my mom out to dinner for her 50th birthday!! Little did she know, while they were out, we were transforming the house yet again for a surprise party!  Again, I failed at pictures.  I wanted a picture with my family, and a picture with Paul’s family, and I got neither.  Too much excitement I guess.

IMG_7340 IMG_7336

Sunday, we finally relaxed a bit!  We headed over to Nana’s house in New Smyrna, and afterwards we headed to the beach.  It was a gorgeous day out, and it was so fun to just relax and spend time with family.  After the beach, we headed to dinner.  Paul’s parents and Charlotte, were not in town long enough, but fortunately it won’t be long before they’re here again… this time to meet their newest granddaughter!! 🙂

IMG_7354 IMG_7357

So that was it.  One amazing, eventful, exhausting weekend with the ones we love that wasn’t quite long enough!!

Baby M – 35 Weeks

Bump Analysis? Still carrying super high, and I’m waiting for her to drop.  If she gets much stronger I feel like she could crack a rib with her little kicks!

Month/Trimester? 8 months [32 weeks – 35 weeks] / 3rd Trimester!

Fruit of the week? Aubrey is the size of a coconut!  She is 17.2-18.7 in and 4.2-5.8 lbs!

Development? Her hearing is fully developed and she responds best to high pitched noises.  So I’m sure our dogs are waking her up… or maybe she’s learning to sleep through their barking? (I can dream!) Fun Fact: her brain only weighs about 2/3 of what her brain will weigh at 39-40 weeks!  So stay in there and keep getting smarter sweet girl!

Movement? As she is getting bigger I can actually feel her little feet when she digs them into my side.  Only a few more weeks until I can count her little toes!!

Name? Aubrey Joy 🙂

Testing? Nothing at the moment!

Weight Gain?    Somehow I managed to gain 4lbs this week… Totaling 30 lbs. 30 lbs was my goal for this pregnancy but it looks like I might pass it since I have 5 weeks left.

  • Anxiety/Heart Palpitations/Shortness of Breath
  • Tingly/Numb leg sensations on my right leg
  • Dry Nose/Nose bleeds
  • Excessive pee breaks
  • Tailbone Pain
  • Heartburn

Cravings? Coffee!! This isn’t so much a craving as a need since I’m not sleeping I feel like a zombie… All day.  Everyday!  Don’t worry – I keep it to 1 cup a day which is perfectly safe.

Aversions? Buffalo Chicken Dip, and I don’t think this is an aversion, but I really have no interest in vegetables.  They do not sound appealing at all.

Sleep? I might as well already have a newborn.  I’m up a million times a night.  I get up to go to the bathroom and stay awake for a couple hours. I toss and turn and I’ve officially reached a love hate relationship with this stupid pregnancy pillow.  I am literally counting down the days until I can sleep on my stomach without a big ol’ pillow wrapped around me!!!

Maternity Clothes?  I have minimal variety in my current wardrobe.  It’s so boring!! I can’t wait to wear regular clothes and go shopping!

Exercise? Womp. Womp…

Wedding Rings? ON!

Stretch Marks? No change here… Still using Burts Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter and BioOil.

Preparations for Baby? This week was busy, but Paul and I managed to put a shelf together so I could organize some stuff in her closet.  Paul also worked on the rocking chair.  It’s sanded and he is in the process of painting it.

I started putting together a hospital bag, but I’m not done yet.  Still a few things to purchase and pack, but the fact that it’s sitting in our room is just crazy! It makes it feel so soon!

Labor Signs? Braxton hicks

What I miss? Sleeping on my stomach, sleep in general, and not getting stuck in the couch or on the bed due to the basketball in my stomach holding me back…

Looking forward to? To be honest this is a super busy week with work so I’m actually looking forward to Sunday when it’s all over!

Maternity Pictures

At some point when things slow down I promise I’ll come back and blog!  The last couple of weeks have seemed extremely busy, and Paul and I both have a LOT going on with work right now!  So for now I will leave you with a few of my favorite pictures from our maternity shoot taken by my lovely sister and edited by her and her husband!! It pays off having family members who enjoy photography!

We also took a few in the nursery, but for now I’ll just show you the silhouette shots so we don’t give away the nursery :).

Baby M – 34 Weeks

Bump Analysis? Selfie!!! Paul is out of town! In the last week I’ve had MULTIPLE people who were surprised to hear I was due NEXT MONTH! (Let that sink in for a second…!)  They told me I looked great and didn’t look nearly big enough to be having a baby next month… I told them to keep talking since I feel about the size of a whale. 🙂 *Sidenote: some pregnant women freak out when you tell them they don’t look big enough, because then they start to worry about their baby’s development.  Fortunately, I’m not one of those women.  I can feel Aubrey kicking, and rolling around like an olympian in there… she’s doing just fine 🙂

Month/Trimester? 8 months [32 weeks – 35 weeks] / 3rd Trimester!

Fruit of the week? She’s the size of a butternut squash.  Weighing around 4.2 – 5.8lbs and she’s about 17.2- 18.7 in long!

Development? Aubrey can recognize and react to simple songs now.  These are songs and rhymes she may find soothing after birth.  She’s also going to the bathroom about a pint a day!

Movement? I’ve felt her have the hiccups before, but I think now that she is bigger they are very distinct and I know for sure she’s having hiccups.  She gets them a couple times a week, and it makes me giggle 🙂

Name? Aubrey Joy 🙂

Testing? Nothing at the moment!

Weight Gain? No weight gain this week… Holding steady at 26 lbs with 6 weeks to go!

  • Round Ligament pain is back – which can only mean I am definitely about to get bigger… which I don’t feel like is possible!
  • Anxiety/Shortness of Breath
  • Tingly/Numb leg sensations on my right leg
  • Dry Nose/Nose bleeds
  • Excessive pee breaks
  • Tailbone Pain
  • Heartburn – I eat TUMS like they’re candy…

Cravings?  Starbucks ice white mocha latte please!

Aversions? Buffalo Chicken Dip

Sleep? So every other night, I wake up to go to the bathroom and then I’m awake for about 2 hours (give or take) before I can fall back asleep.  The next night, I’m so tired that I sleep through the night.  Then the cycle repeats itself… I think my body is subconsciously prepping me for Aubrey’s arrival, but you think it would at least let me sleep while I can since I’m about to be completely sleep deprived!

Maternity Clothes?  I want normal clothes…Even my yoga pants are starting to get tight around my waist.  I have to wear them a little lower than normal so they don’t have to stretch around my big ol’ belly! Yoga pants people! You know the amount of stretch those things have!!!

Exercise? Let’s just ignore how badly I’m failing at this… Don’t judge me.

Wedding Rings? ON!

Stretch Marks? No change here… Still using Burts Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter and BioOil.

Preparations for Baby? Thanks to all of our sweet and generous family and friends we have just about EVERYTHING we need for Aubrey!  We had our baby shower this past weekend, and I’ve been going through and organizing everything and trying to figure out what’s left!  I am in the process of deciding what we still need, and using our registry completion coupon to get any other things we may need within the first few months.

I washed all of her clothes for 0-3 months.  I haven’t washed any newborn clothes, because I have a feeling our little girl will not fit into newborn clothes.  Paul and I were both over 8lbs when we were born, so there is a good chance our daughter will be a little chunk when she’s born too!

I’ve been realizing how quickly this pregnancy seems to be going, but I think it just hit Paul this week.  Yesterday he goes, “Babe – I just realized it’s May!  Aubrey will be here next month!  And what if she comes early!?  She could be here in like 2 weeks!”  I kind of laughed at him, but I’m glad to know it’s finally registered and now we’re on the same page 🙂

Labor Signs? Braxton Hicks on occasion mixed with cramps that feel similar to period cramps… Not sure if that’s a labor sign or just a weird body thing.

What I miss?  This weekend was a whirlwind, and I’m pretty sure it’s the first time that I actually felt like I was over being pregnant.  We were really busy and running around, which probably would have left me tired anyways, but by Saturday night my entire body ached.  My back, my knees, my legs, my feet.  I just wanted to lay down and not MOVE!  I definitely miss how much more energy I had pre pregnancy.  This past weekend terrified me for the next 2 weekends to come where I have events for work… they may kick my butt, or send me into labor…

Looking forward to? Getting the nursery organized!  It’s decorated, but it’s not organized!  My father-in-law brought us the rocking chair this weekend, so once we refinish it and put it in the nursery I promise I’ll show you guys what it looks like!!! I’m OBSESSED with her nursery.  It’s by far my favorite room in the house 🙂
