Baby M – 33 Weeks

Bump Analysis? This little girl has not dropped at all.  She seems to be perfectly content hanging out in my rib cage.  I guess this is kind of a good thing, because hopefully that means she isn’t ready to come out anytime soon, and I want her to stay in there a little longer!

Month/Trimester? 8 months [32 weeks – 35 weeks] / 3rd Trimester!

Fruit of the week? This week, Aubrey is the size of a durian… if you’re like me and you have no clue what that is… It’s apparently the smelliest superfruit.  Appealing right?  She is about 17.2 – 18.7in and 4.2-5.8lbs!  She could grow up to a full inch this week – which is just amazing to me!

Development? She keeps her eyes open while she is awake, and she’s starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing.  Her bones are hardening, and she’s still going through more major brain development!  Keep on growing baby girl!

Movement? I can feel her moving still, but I think it’s definitely becoming cramped in there for her.  Sometimes at night I’ll be almost asleep, and then she will do some huge kick or what feels like she’s dragging her arm/leg across the inside of my stomach (weirdest feeling ever!).  It totally takes me by surprise and jolts me awake.

Name? Aubrey Joy 🙂

Testing? Nothing at the moment!

Weight Gain?     1 lb this week… Totaling 26 lbs.

  • Anxiety/Heart Palpitations/Shortness of Breath – I think my anxiety is getting better.  Between lots of prayer, and actually knocking a lot of things off my to do list I’m starting to relax a little!
  • Tingly/Numb leg sensations on my right leg
  • Dry Nose/Nose bleeds
  • Excessive pee breaks
  • Tailbone Pain
  • Heartburn

Cravings?  Starbucks ice white mocha latte please!

Aversions? Buffalo Chicken Dip

Sleep? I killed my back this week sleeping the wrong way.  I think somehow my stomach was pulling my back into an awkward position, and I woke up in so much pain.  It felt like I had been bent over backwards for hours on end.  I adjusted how I was sleeping though, and I think I solved this problem!

Maternity Clothes?  I bought another shirt – the repetitive thing is killing me.

Exercise? Paul and I went for a walk this past week with the dogs.  It wasn’t near as long as our normal walks, but man am I feeling out of shape!  I get out of breath so easy, walking usually brings on braxton hicks, and even though Aubrey isn’t sitting on my sciatica anymore, I think she’s on another nerve that randomly causes my right leg to get all tingly and numb feeling.  I feel like our life has calmed down during the week though, so I at least want to try to get some exercise in during the week… The weekends are a whole different story.

Wedding Rings? ON!

Stretch Marks? No change here… Still using Burts Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter and BioOil.

Preparations for Baby? Since we are starting to get closer to the end, I’m starting to do more to get ready for Aubrey’s arrival, and I figured this would be a fun update!  I am currently in full on nesting mode – not the cleaning part, but the decorating part!  The last 2-3 weeks I’ve probably driven my husband absolutely insane, but he’s been a saint!  He hangs things when I ask, we built a console table together this past weekend (I’ll do a blog post on that soon!), and I may have gone slightly over budget last month and this month due to my need to decorate and instead of getting angry he has just laughed at me… and then said, “Okay but this is it – now you’re done”. See – he’s a saint. 🙂

I am also SUPER EXCITED to say that the nursery is fully decorated!! (aside from the rocking chair which my father in law is bringing this weekend!) So with all the decorating getting done, my anxiety level has definitely lowered!  Once we get the rocking chair in place I will do a nursery reveal, but for now we are still keeping that under wraps! 🙂

I also busted out all of the cloth diapers in our stash this week to start getting them washed and ready for when she get’s here!  CRAZY!!

Labor Signs? Braxton hicks

What I miss?  How easy it was to shave my legs before I had a huge belly.

Looking forward to? So many things!  My in laws and niece will be in on Friday! My sister, her husband, and their girls will be here!  We are taking maternity pictures, and my mom is throwing us a baby shower this weekend!  I am so so excited to see everyone, and to celebrate our little girl!

Finally Friday [3.20.15]

It’s finally FRIDAY! I’m doing a happy dance over here! I’m also letting some of my random thoughts spill onto my blog today.

1.  I was up until about 2 am and woke up at about 5:45am.  Insomnia is getting the best of me, but it won’t keep me down!  I’ve got big plans for this weekend!  Which brings us to numbers 2 an 3! 🙂

2. My best friend from Tallahassee is in Orlando for the weekend to celebrate her 2 year wedding anniversary with her husband.  So tonight we are meeting them for dinner at Cheesecake Factory.  She is the only person who will eat their avocado egg rolls with me.  I haven’t decided if I will get a real meal tonight or just eat the egg rolls and cheesecake…  Avocados are healthy.  If I get original cheesecake with strawberries, then the strawberries are healthy… I’m just saying that may or may not happen tonight.

3. I’ve been ITCHING to be in the sun!  The weather is so incredibly gorgeous!  Sunny and 75, and working indoors all week is cramping my style.  The walks we’ve been taking at night with the dogs aren’t enough, so I begged Paul to take this [huge] pregnant girl to the beach (PS If you know my husband, convincing him to go to the beach is not hard).  Well then our friends invited us to the beach with them tomorrow, and excited doesn’t cover it!  Except for the whole bathing suit part… which brings us to 4.

4.  I went bathing suit shopping last night.  It was rough.  However, I’m not feeling any of the maternity suits, so we’re gonna flaunt this big ol’ belly with the most precious little girl in it, and we don’t really care who sees.  But the ONLY bathing suit that covered my girls, is not very cute.  It’s not a pattern I would normally choose, and I’m going with solid black bottoms, BUT the sun is calling my name and that is all that matters!  Target to the rescue again. Disclaimer: The image below is NOT what this bathing suit looks like when you’re 7 months pregnant.

5.  I may or may not have ordered the most adorable cloth diaper for Aubrey.  It took everything in me not to also order it in a swim diaper of every size so she wouldn’t grow out of it for a while.  Self control.  Working on self control!  So seriously, Charlie Banana, I love you for your ADORABLE patterns.  I cannot wait for Aubrey to be here so she can wear this.  I can almost guarantee I will have her running around in just diapers frequently, just because her diapers will be so cute.  So this Peony Blossom pattern had my heart melting, but even this picture doesn’t do it justice.  I stumbled across the pattern on their Instagram, and let’s just say there was no going back!

6. We’re planning on finishing our dresser redo this weekend as well.  I am so excited to get it done, and moved into the nursery so things will start to feel like they are getting put together!

7.  I’ve been thinking about Lucky Charms for a good week now.  I think I mentioned them to Paul while we were in bed last night about 3-4 times.  If it wasn’t after 11, I would have gone to get some.  So I contemplated going this morning.  I ALMOST went to Publix at 7am… I mean I was up anyways.  Oh the strange things you crave when you’re pregnant.

Happy Friday!!!

Why Cloth?

During my pregnancy, I’ve debated between using cloth diapers and disposables.  Now if you’ve never seen cloth diapers in the recent years, take a deep breath before you start saying how gross this is.  If that’s what you’re thinking, 3 years ago I did the same thing. I judged my sister for wanting to use cloth diapers on her daughter, and I think I actually told her, “That’s disgusting, I’m never changing one of her diapers.”  In my head, I was picturing old school cloth diapers that was literally a piece of cloth with safety pins, when in reality modern day cloth diapers are not much different then disposable diapers.

I brought it up with Paul, who wasn’t thrilled with the idea.  Not because he didn’t like cloth, he’s seen my nieces running around in them, but because he didn’t 1. want to dump poo into the toilet (I guess you can’t blame him there right?) and 2.  he swore that when we washed the diapers, poop would get stuck in the washing machine, and end up all over his clothes… then I laughed at him.  So after some research, and talking, Paul pretty much said he didn’t have a preference (since he’s never changed a diaper in his life, and his first will be Aubrey’s) so if that is what I wanted to do, he was fine with it as long as he didn’t have to wash them… Done.  He doesn’t do laundry anyways (See our agreement here).

Here were the debates in my head, that ultimately led to the decision:

  • Laundry.  Will I want to add more laundry to what I will already be doing.  This was probably the biggest deterrent for me.
  • Poop.  No matter how you get rid of it, poop is gross.  Disposables, you take it off and throw it away.  Cloth, you take it off, dump the poop (which may include spraying the diaper to get any excess off), and throw it in the wet bag for laundry day.

  • Cost.  I would like to say the benefits for our baby was my biggest motivator, but I’d be lying.  Cloth diapers are more costly up front.  They say it takes $300-$500 to get a “stash” which would consist of about 24 diapers, but then you’re done…. no more purchasing (unless you see really cute patterns that you need to see on your baby’s bottom and then you need to buy them).  If you even add in the cost of water, and detergent it still is cheaper then buying disposable diapers.  My sister was the guinea pig here, and she literally did a spread sheet to determine cost efficiency.  It included anything from the cost of the diapers, to the cost of water and electricity to wash them… she did the hard part for me.  🙂  With the first baby, it will save you approximately $900 – $1000  dollars (for the diapers we are using), but as you have another child you can reuse the diapers and ultimately save your family THOUSANDS of dollars!  Since I don’t have my sisters spreadsheet to share, you can just visit this site and see the savings for yourself!
  • Health.  Cloth diapers ultimately, need to be changed slightly more frequently to prevent leaking, in doing so you save your baby from diaper rashes.  Most babies who use cloth may never experience a diaper rash ever.  Not to mention, the hundreds of chemicals that make up a disposable diaper that can sometimes irritate their skin will not be an issue.
  • Environment.  I take care of our environment, I recycle, I don’t litter, etc., but I wouldn’t say that I’m an enthusiast by any stretch of the means.  After research, I realized it takes 1 disposable diaper 150 years to biodegrade.  With the millions and millions of diapers being used each year, they are filling our landfills!  If I can take away some of that, sure why not.  I’ll help.
  • Convenience. So you may not think it’s very convenient to have added laundry, BUT it is very easy to see when you’re running low on diapers.  Instead of thinking “oh remind me to buy diapers the next time I’m out” you just throw a load of laundry in.  Boom.  Never run out of diapers.  Never make midnight runs to the store for a box of diapers.  Never search and wait for sales and buy in bulk.  Your diapers will fit your baby from around 10lbs -35 lbs.
  • HOLY CUTENESS! Okay, so ultimately next to price, this was the selling point for me.  How stinking cute is a little baby butt in a cloth diaper?!  They have the cutest little patterns, they don’t get that gross disposable diaper sag after they’ve gone to the bathroom.  I seriously just love looking at little patterns!  I’m keeping most of our diapers gender neutral, for future use, but I am still going to be purchasing some adorable little girl patterns!

I made my first order for our cloth diaper stash, and decided to try BumGenius 4.0 pocket diapers, and I am SO excited to get them in the mail!  I’ll be buying a few different brands and types to determine what we like best.

I was really leery cloth diapering initially, but I’ve completely talked myself into it and I’m EXCITED about diapers… how does that happen?!  Ultimately,  we decided we would give it a shot, and it if isn’t for us then we will sell the diapers and use disposables, but at this point I am so excited that I’m pretty sure it will work!  🙂

After Miss Aubrey gets here, I will update everyone on how the process is going for us, and if I love it or hate it.  For now I just can’t wait for her to come, and to put her in the cutest dang diapers!
